Rasa Dhatu, a restaurant serving organic food, is nestled in the
quiet neighbourhood of Vani Vilasa Mohalla, just off Kalidasa Road. The
restaurant boasts of healthy, home style cooking using organic ingredients.
Since this is what we were looking for, we decided to check out the food and
landed up one day for lunch.
The restaurant is housed on the first floor of a building (there
is a lift, in case you find the stairs difficult) which also houses Dhatu, the
organic store. As we entered, we were greeted by nice soothing music and a
cheerful waiter. The interiors are cozy, bright and nicely done up.
As we
sat down, the waiter handed us the menu card and we were set to start.
The menu comprised not only of the usual salads, soups and starters but also had whole wheat and multi grain chapati, brown rice, fresh fruit juices, Kashaya (healing drink), vegan milk and some interesting desserts. There
was also the day's special written on a board.
I ordered the leek soup and my
friend decided to try the lemon grass tea. The leek soup was light, fresh and
wholesome with a nice dose of pepper thrown in and I would highly recommend it
on a wet/winter day. The lemon grass tea was fresh and the smell of lemon
grass was appetizing. Incidentally, the menu indicates that they offer more than 40 varieties of tea from across the world.

Next we ordered we ordered the Potato Kababs and the Hara Bhara
Kababs as starters,. The Potato Kababs were disappointing as they were nothing
but boiled potato coated with corn flour and deep fried! Not at all healthy,
one would say! The Hara Bhara Kababs were good, spiced just right and we
enjoyed them.

For the main course, I ordered the Basmati Rice and Rajma curry
combo. It was certainly well cooked and the spices were just right. I loved
every bit of it. If you are in a rush, you could make this your meal (it is
accompanied by papad and pickle).

My friend tried the whole wheat pasta with the Basil leaf Pesto sauce. She found it a little bland. Would appeal to foreigners, but for the
Indian palate, it needs an additional dash of spice.

By the time we had finished tucking into the main course, we
were stuffed. But as always, what is a meal without dessert! While there were
many interesting items on the menu, we noticed the Millet based desserts and
ordered the Ragi Laddus. The taste, at first, did not seem to be appealing but
we loved it. It is an acquired taste and is close to the taste of rice, roasted
and powdered. We would recommend the Ragi Laddus for dessert.
A 4-course meal for two would cost approximately Rs. 800-1000.
It is a great hangout place and the food is good. For those of us who like vegetarian fare, this place is worth a visit.
I must mention here, that
unlike in many other restaurants that we’ve visited, the waiter here was very
knowledgeable and cheerful. We will definitely be going back to Rasa Dhatu for
more and recommend that you check out the restaurant too. We would love to hear
your views.
So what Mysore Foodies finally say: (5-Excellent)
Food- 4.5 burrrps!
Ambience- 4.5 burrrrps!
Price- 4 burps!
Service- 4 burps!
